Frederick Douglass lived on Cedar Hill from 1877 until his death in 1895; the site is preserved and interpretive of his life.

Situated atop a 50-foot hill and encompassing eight acres of the original estate, the historic house serves as the focal point of the site. The home has been furnished with original items that belonged to Frederick Douglass and other household members and has been meticulously restored to its 1895 appearance.

An average visit lasts roughly sixty minutes. You can explore the grounds, watch the film, browse the exhibits, and take a tour of the historic house.

The historic house is only accessible by guided tour. Even if you are visiting alone, reservations are highly recommended because space is limited. If you happen to be there Reservations are needed if there are more than ten people in the group.
