George Strait Biography, Early Life, Career, Net worth, Age, Nationality, State of Origin

When George Strait was in the US Army, he started playing in a band and became a country singer. In the 1980s, he signed a recording contract with MCA Records, and over the following three decades, he released a number of successful albums. With the greatest-selling boxed set in the history of country music, he is well-known for adhering to the classic country sound and has won numerous accolades.

Early Life

On May 18, 1952, George Strait was born in Poteet, Texas. He was raised on a farm owned by his family in the neighboring town of Pearsall, Texas, and attended Southwest Texas State University to study agriculture. Before enlisting in the army, Strait eloped with Norma, his high school sweetheart. He started singing in the Army-sponsored band Rambling Country while he was stationed in Hawaii. He formed his own band, Ace in the Hole, after moving back to Texas, and it quickly amassed a sizable local fan base.

Commercial Breakthrough: In 1981, after years of fruitless attempts to land a record contract, Strait signed a solo contract with MCA Records. Anchored by the hit single “Unwound,” his debut album, Strait Country (1981), helped to increase the radio play of more traditional, less pop-influenced country music. Over the next ten years, Strait produced a string of No. 1 albums, including Beyond the Blue Neon (1989), Does Fort Worth Ever Cross Your Mind (1984), Something Special (1985), Strait From the Heart (1982), and Ocean Front Property (1987), all of which were certified platinum or multi-platinum. In 1989, he was named Entertainer of the Year by the Country Music Association, a distinction he repeated in 1990.

Personal and Spouse Life

In addition to his musical career, Strait enjoys skiing, golfing, and steer-roping. George, Jr. is the son of the couple’s wife Norma, and he is a professional rodeo competitor. In 1986, his daughter Jennifer perished in an automobile accident. The Jennifer Lynn Strait Foundation was established by her family as a way to honor her memory and raise funds for organizations that support children.
