Born on July 19, 1991, Oluwatosin Ajibade is a Nigerian singer, songwriter, and businessman better known by his stage name Mr Eazi.He is credited with creating the fusion sound known as “Banku music,” which combines Nigerian chord progressions and patterns with Ghanaian highlife. After moving to Kumasi in 2008, Mr. Eazi enrolled at KNUST and started booking musicians to play at college parties. After recording a guest verse on the song “My Life,” which gained popularity and became a hit record at KNUST, he demonstrated his interest in music. Mr. Eazi briefly participated in the school choir while he was in primary school in Lagos. He grew up listening to records that his father would play for the family while they had breakfast. In order to pursue his academic goals, Mr. Eazi moved to Ghana when he was sixteen years old. He enrolled in Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology’s mechanical engineering program (KNUST). When Mr. Eazi was a student at KNUST, he began recording music. He provided backing vocals for the song “My Life” on the track.

The sound “characterized by percolating rhythms and laid-back vocal delivered in Ghanaian Pidgin English” is what is known as Banku music, which Mr. Eazi invented. The majority of Mr. Eazi’s output falls under the umbrella of Afrobeats, a modern West African pop genre that combines hip-hop, global pop, and highlife. Some have said that Mr. Eazi’s music has an R&B vibe that makes them think of performers like Gregory Isaacs and Beres Hammond. According to Lawrence Burney of, Mr. Eazi “gives ballad-like qualities to dance-forward production” with his deep voice.
